Michael Gadiel

Michael Gadiel is the Deputy Secretary of the Procurement Reform and Banking Group. Prior to this he led Treasury’s Centre for Economic Evidence. He has broad experience in Treasury, including leading the Office of the Secretary, economic strategy, productivity reform, justice and emergency services, fiscal strategy, wages policy, budget strategy, economic modelling and forecasting. 

Prior to joining Treasury in 2007 Michael worked as a Senior Policy Advisor in the offices of the Premier and Treasurer and was an elected official of the Labor Council of NSW where he coordinated the rail, energy and health industries.

Michael is a graduate of the Public Service Commission Leadership Academy. He holds a Bachelor Degree in Science, and a Masters in Economics with First Class Honours from the University of Sydney. He won the 2008 University of Sydney Econometric Modelling Prize.

He has been recognised with three Secretary’s Annual Awards – 2016 for the Intergenerational Report, 2021 for leadership of COVID Business Support programs, and 2023 for Infrastructure Contributions Reform. He also received the 2023 Treasury Inclusivity Award for his work on First Nations economic wellbeing.
