Report on the state finances 2023-24

The 2023-24 NSW Report on State Finances includes:

• an overview of the financial performance and position of the General Government and Total State Sectors for 2023-24
• the audited Consolidated Financial Statements of the General Government and Total State Sectors for 2023-24, including a full set of note disclosures required by Australian Accounting Standards
• the Outcomes Report on Government Finances for the General Government Sector, Public Non- Financial Corporations Sector, Public Financial Corporations Sector and the Non-Financial Public Sector for 2023-24, prepared in accordance with the Uniform Presentation Framework adopted by all Australian governments.

These reports and associated commentary provide a comprehensive analysis and review of the State’s financial performance and position.

2022-23 NSW Report on State Finances

• an overview of the financial performance and position of the General Government and Total State Sectors for 2022-23
• the audited Consolidated Financial Statements of the General Government and Total State Sectors for 2022-23, including a full set of note disclosures required by Australian Accounting Standards
• the Outcomes Report on Government Finances for the general government sector, public non-financial corporations sector, public financial corporations sector and the non-financial public sector for 2022-23, prepared in accordance with the Uniform Presentation Framework adopted by all Australian governments.

• the Outcomes Report on Government Finances for the general government sector, public non-financial corporations sector, public financial corporations sector and the non-financial public sector for 2021-22, prepared in accordance with the Uniform Presentation Framework adopted by all Australian governments.

Independent assessment of NSW Treasury’s processes in relation to the preparation of the 2021 State Financial Statements

On 10 February 2022, the NSW Treasury Secretary indicated to the NSW Public Accountability Committee that he would commission an independent assessment (the Assessment) of Treasury’s processes for the preparation of the 2021 State Financial Statements as they relate to the specific matters raised by the Auditor General in Chapter 3 of her Report on State Finances 2021.

In March 2022, former Commonwealth departmental secretary and Public Service Commissioner, Mr Stephen Sedgwick AO, was appointed to conduct the Assessment. Mr Sedgwick provided his Assessment report to Treasury on 30 June 2022. The report contains 11 recommendations, which Treasury has accepted.
