On 17 December 2022, the NSW Government announced its intention to increase duty rates applied to casinos.
The intended changes are estimated to raise an additional $364 million over three years from 2023-24 to 2025-26.
The increases are intended to apply to the duty rates payable by the Star and Crown casinos in Sydney.
The new duty rates are intended to commence on 1 July 2023 as follows:
- Non-Rebate Duty Rate from 17.91 per cent to 20.25 per cent. The current 2 per cent Responsible Gambling Levy (RGL) will remain in effect
- Rebate Duty Rate from 10 per cent to 12.5 per cent
- Poker Machine Duty Rate from 20.91 per cent to the following tiered schedule:
